Tony Gordon (MS, 1989) works for Atlanta Environmental Management as a
project geologist. Environmental projects have taken him throughout the
southeastern U.S. (from Texas to the Carolinas and from Maryland to Puerto
Rico). Prior to moving to Georgia, he worked in California for Golder
Associates as a staff geologist.
Jon Fancher (BA, 1983) works for IT Hanford as an environmental scientist.
He is currently working in environmental characterization and site
remediation. His areas of interest include volatiles in the vadose zone,
technology development, and cone penetrometer technology. He is currently
working towards a MS in Environmental Science.
Bruce Rader (BS, 1993) works as a trucking supervisor for Safeway Stores.
He and his wife Tammy are working hard and enjoying life. Their two
children, Kimberly 11 and Ryan 8, are active in sports and school. Bruce
is currently using his vast geological knowledge as a roadside geologist.
As he trucks down the highway, he looks out the window and says "there's a
rock."
Lloyd Long (BS, 1970) works for Saudi ARAMCO and is involved with managing
geophysical data bases and Unix systems programming. He also acts as the
computer security liaison coordinator for the Geophysics Department. He
has been in Arabia for 15 years and has two children, a girl 10 and a boy

Calvin Landrus (BS, 1983) is the associate pastor at New Hope Church in
Oregon. He has three children and is still climbing solid sill.
Cliff Watkins (BS, 1981) is an advisory scientist for Lockheed Martin Idaho
Technologies, supervising a staff of 12 environmental chemists, data
management engineers, and technicians for the INEL environmental sampling
and analysis activities.
Bill Graham (BS, 1991; MS, 1994) has been working for the Rivers Council of
Washington as a water policy/technical advisor and would like to hear from
other geo-types.
Cole Lovett (MS, 1984) received his Ph.D. in hydrogeology from Western
Michigan University in 1995. He is an instructor at Lake Michigan College
and teaches skydiving during the summer. He will be getting married in the
spring of 1996.
David Payne (BS, 1989; MS, 1992) currently works as the environmental and
safety compliance manager for the State of Oregon, Federal Aviation
facilities.
Steve Drussell (BS, 1982) has worked in scientific field instrumentation
for over ten years. He is a founding partner for Reliable Geo L.L.C.
providing geologic, geotechnical and hydrogeologic equipment to the
scientific community, consultants and government agencies.
Hossain Nazarian (MS, 1980) is a senior processing geophysicist for
Geotrace Technologies. His wife Azam is a civil engineer and he has two
daughters. In 1994, he spent 3 months in the United Arab Emirates as a 3D
processing supervisor with Dubai Petroleum Company and 8 months in
Venezuela as a project manager for petroleum. He has been working in the
geophysical field for 15 years.
David Flint (BS, 1980) is superintendent of underground mine planning at
Freeport Indonesia. His wife Julie is also a geologist, and they have two
sons 6 and 8.
Jianzhong Fan (MS, 1989) is a research assistant at the University of
Saskatchewan and passed his Ph.D. defense in May, 1995.
Yi Zheng (MS, 1995) is working on the Garbage Project at the University of
Arizona Anthropology Department.
Bruce Bjornstad (MS, 1980) is a senior research scientist at Battelle
Pacific Northwest Laboratory working on site characterization and
monitoring and geological controls on subsurface microorganisms. He
reports he is single, childless and loving it.
Char Anderson is a senior industrial engineer for Seagate Technology and is
responsible for capacity planning for three factories, two in Malaysia and
one in Minneapolis. She had the opportunity to spend three weeks in
Malaysia and Singapore with a detour to the island of Langkowi (great
beaches). She has been keeping busy with night classes at the University
of Minnesota, working and raising two children.
Stephanie Zurenko (BS, 1981) is regional geologist for the central region
of the Washington Department of Natural Resources and is a reclamation
specialist dealing mostly with mine site permitting at gravel pits and rock
quarries, watershed mass wasting analysis and forest practice slope
stability analysis. She has a rambunctious, happy 2-year-old girl and
enjoys gardening and tree-farming; still loves learning about rocks,
flowers, animals, etc. She would like to keep in touch with field campers
from 1981.
Mike Johnson (MS, 1992) is a hydrologist with the Navajo National
Department of Water Resources Management and is currently head of special
studies within the groundwater section of the department, developing a
proposal for a regional groundwater study of thenorthern portion of the
reservation in southern Utah in collaboration with the USGS. He received
Arizona certification as geologist-in-training in January 1995. Also in
January, he and Rachel became the proud parents of a beautiful baby girl,
Gemma Lee. They have 2 dogs, 2 cats, and 3 used cars with combined mileage
of 450,000.
Philip Massa (MS, 1984) is presently vice president and assistant general
counsel for Indochina 2000, Inc., placing U.S. corporations in Vietnam. He
was planning to relocate to Hanoi this past summer.
Frank Visger (BS, 1972; MS, 1974) is a coal geologist for Powder River Coal
Company in Wyoming.
Ed Fusch (BA, 1987) is a consulting geologist, assayer/geochemist, and
anthropological researcher in his company Mining Center. He teaches
classes in mineral exploration, electronic prospecting, etc., and addressed
the International Society of Cryptozoology and the British Folklore Society
in Surrey England, reporting on results of a research he conducted over a
10-year period.
Bill Schneck (MS, 1986) works for the Washington State Crime Laboratory as
a forensic scientist and microanalyst. He is also owner/manager of
Microvision Northwest, which does forensic analysis and consulting.
Dan Howard (MS, 1990) recently became a registered Professional Geologist
in Oregon. He, his wife Kathy, two kids, and assorted pets recently
decided to relocate to Spokane.
David Colbert (BS, 1988) works as a smokejumper for the Forest Service and
as an emergency medical technician. He is also working towards a teaching
degree and getting his private pilot's license. He and his wife have two
young boys.
Mike Hoffman (BS, 1985) is a water quality specialist for the State of
Idaho, where he works on water quality with land owners, stream erosion and
effects on salmon.
Dick Winters (BS, 1979) retired from the U.S. Bureau of Mines this past
year and has been enjoying a number of delayed projects and desires.
Mike Berry (BS, 1976) works for Garco Building Systems, providing steel
structures for mining companies around the world.
Pete Olander (MS, 1981) has been president of Brenna Resources Ltd. for two
and a half years. He and his wife Julie have three children, Reese 8 and
twins Maggie and Jamie 6.
Jerry West (MS, 1977) is a senior water quality analyst for the Division of
Environmental Quality in Boise. He and his wife Nancy were married in
1986.
Rob Walker (MS, 1991) is an industrial minerals and aggregates consultant
in San Jose. He and his wife Lisa have two children, Jeff 13 and Danny 11.
Bert Hyde (BS, 1980) is has worked for Secor International Inc. since 1992
and is principal geologist. Before that, he worked with Roy F. Weston,
Inc. for seven years. He and his wife Sandy have two children, Stefanie 12
and Travis 10.
Ming-Ho Du (MS, 1979) is president of Image2 Map Services, Inc. in
Colorado. He does digital image processing and geological data
integration.
Frank Oliver (BA, 1982) has been working for the U.S. Bureau of Mines and
will be going back to his previous avocation of itinerant panhandler and
part-time burglar-anyone know where Bruce Babbitt lives? He is also making
plans to get married at the turn of the millennium and is currently looking
for the right lady.
Mohammed Zafar (MS, 1992) sends his regards from the Geoscience Lab in
Islamabad, Pakistan.
Ed Snyder (BA, MS, 1976) was recently promoted to full professor at
Shepherd College in West Virginia. Ed has been doing work in groundwater
as well as publishing on bryozoans.
Veit Matt (MS, 1994) has finished his first semester at Texas A&M, where
Joyanto Routh (MS, 1994) is also pursuing a Ph.D.
Ron Doherty (BS, 1994) has relocated to Colorado. He is involved with
aerial photography and interpretation for Intrasearch. His wife works for
Martin Marietta.
Fritz Durham (MS, 1993) is a staff geologist with InterMountain West,
hazardous waste management specialists, in Oregon.
Joju Abraham (MS, 1994) is pursuing a Ph.D. at Baylor in Texas.
Scott Winslow (BA, 1987) worked as a chemist at Johnson-Matthey for the
past 10 years and recently decided on a career change. He has enrolled in
the Masters in Teaching program at Whitworth and plans to teach high school
earth science and math. His wife is also a teacher and they enjoy visiting
her family in Spain.
