Dual majors





Our program has been specifically designed to provide motivated students the opportunity to obtain a double major in their chosen concentration area.  All students are strongly encouraged to take advantage of this unique opportunity. It will increase your competitiveness in the job market or prepare you for a wealth of post-graduate opportunities in professsions schools, programs, and graduate school.  The Environmental Chemistry degree offered by the chemistry department is certified by the American Chemical Society (ACS), one of ~ 20 universities nationwide to have this approval.

To obtain a double major in Chemistry (environmental chemistry option) and Environmental Science, the classes needed will depend on what you took as part of the chemistry concentration.  However, all students must take:

    MATH 163 Calculus (5)
    CHEM 420 Instrumental Analysis (5)

The table below summarizes the remaining classes.





    To obtain a double major in environmental science and biology, the following additional courses are required:

    BIOL 436 Cellular Biology (5) –or –
    BIOL 438 Molecular Biology (5)

    and

    BIOL 490 Biology capstone (5)
    (see your advisor; can use ENVS490)

    Total:   5 additional credits

    To obtain a double major in environmental science and geology with an environmental option, the following courses are required:
    One additional year (9-15 credits) selected from biology, chemistry, geology, mathematics or physics.  Selection must be made in consultation with the geology department and the courses must be exclusive of those taken as part of the environmental science core.
