Increasing development of the hillsides immediately adjacent to the Spokane aquifer may pose a threat to water quality of the aquifer. In addition, stormwater runoff is a growing problem as the natural surfaces and soils in watersheds are increasingly paved over, turning them into impermeable surfaces that promote rapid runoff.
