Here's Mars in early summer 1999 (single 2 sec exposure at f/10 through Wratten #25 filter with unsharp mask).

I know, it's small, but I was having difficulty getting my eyepiece projection system to work.  Nonetheless you can clearly see continent-size features on the planet;  the dark spot is Syrtis Major.
