Short Courses Attended:

Fall 1984, American Association of Petroleum Geologists Fall Education Conference, held in Houston, Texas. This three day intensive course on recent trends in petroleum geology was in large part directly applicable to GEOL 442, Petroleum geology.

Fall 1985, Geological Society of America, Mollusca, held in Orlando, Florida. Recent understanding of molluscan biology, geography, and distribution in the geologic record were emphasized in this course, which led directly to content revision in GEOL 572, Paleoecology.

Fall 1986, Geological Society of America, Geologic Applications of Fossil Radiolaria, held in San Antonio, Texas. In the decade since I completed my training in micropaleontology, advances in the study of radiolaria have been great. Most micropaleontology texts do not adequately cover this group, which has become increasingly important in dating oil-bearing oceanic strata. Therefore, with university support, I availed myself of the opportunity to take a comprehensive one day course, offered under the auspices of the Geological Society of America. The course has allowed me to greatly update GEOL 571, Micropaleontology.

Fall 1987, Geological Society of America, Fossil Procaryotes and Protists, Phoenix, Arizona. Discussion of recent advances in microfossil biostratigraphy, evolution, and biology were the subjects of this course, which updates GEOL 571, Micropaleontology.

Spring 1988, American Association of Petroleum Geologists, Clay Mineralogy, held in Houston, Texas. Short course was needed to update data used in GEOL 573, Clay mineralogy and shales.

Fall 1989, Geological Society of America, The Age of Dinosaurs, held in St. Louis, Missouri. Discussion of recent advances in vertebrate paleontology useful in preparing a popular course on dinosaurs, GEOL 397.

Fall 1991, Geological Society of America, Analytical Paleontology, held in San Diego, California. Discussion of quantitative methods useful in analyzing paleontological and biostratigraphic data, useful in updating GEOL 314, Historical Geology, and GWOL 408, Invertebrate Paleontology.

Summer 1992, International Conference on Arctic Margins, Workshop on Dinosaur Biogeography, Anchorage, Alaska. Discussion of recent advances in the paleogeography of dinosaurs in the Arctic region. Contained the most up to date information. Used in Geology 397/497/597.
