The Department was saddened to hear that
Carl Yost (B.A., 1975; M.S., 1976) passed away early this year.
Tom Taylor (B.S., 1980) is working as a geophysicist for Shell Oil Co. in Pearl River, Louisiana. He received his M.S. from West Virginia University in Morgantown. He has an 8-year-old son.
Diane Murbach B.S., 1982) completed her M.S. in geology at San Diego State in 1994. Her husband, Monte Murbach (B.S., 1982) is doing a study on faults for his M.S. at San Diego State. They are both employed as project engineering geologists at David Newton Associates, based out of Portland, Oregon.
Travis Trent (B.S., 1994) is working as an environmental geologist for Fulcrum Environmental Consulting in Yakima, Washington, and plans to take the test to become a registered professional geologist in Oregon.
Chad Trent (B.S., 1996) also works for Fulcrum Environmental Consulting in Yakima as an environmental technician. He plans to take the geologist-in-training test this summer in Oregon.
Brenda Boston (B.A., 1991) is in Des Moines, Iowa, where her husband John is in medical school. They have a 2-year-old daughter and a son who was born last September.
Eric Johnson (B.S., 1993; M.S., 1995) is in the Spokane area and had a daughter last fall.
Veit Matt (M.S., 1994) is working on his Ph.D. at Texas A&M University and hopes to be done in December 1999.
David Payne (B.S., 1989; M.S., 1992) has assumed the duties of Regional Occupational and Safety Manager for the nine-state Northern Mountain Region of the FAA.
Andrew Knowles (B.S., 1996) recently married and is a graduate TA in the geology program at Western Washington University.
Curt Hughes (B.A., B.S., 1983) works for the U.S. Geological Survey in Portland, Oregon.
Tom Hattenburg (B.S., 1986; M.S., 1994) works for AccuFlood doing flood certifications for banks and mortgage companies in Denver.
Nasir Aziz (M.S., 1995) owns a very successful web-authoring computer company called New Wave Computers in Seattle, which generated nearly a million dollars this past year with accounts like Boeing, Microsoft, U.S. Air Force, U.S. House of Representatives, and Bell Atlantic.
John Etienne (M.S., 1987) works as a purchasing agent at Egghead Computers in Liberty Lake, Washington, but continues to ìgeologizeî in northern Idaho and western Montana. He and his wife Michelle have a two-year-old daughter.
Dennis Finn (B.S., 1976; M.S., 1979) planned to complete his Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering in 1996 at Washington State University.
Rob Rau (M.S., 1987) is a geologist doing hazardous waste investigation and cleanup for EA Engineering, Science and Technology in Bellevue, Washington.
Jana Monrean Augenstine (B.S., 1983) does developer review and access control for the Washington Department of Transportation Planning Office in Spokane. She and her husband Mark live in Deer Park with 2 dogs, 2 horses and 2 cats.

Connie Freudenberg (B.S., 1980; M.S., 1981) married James Sakamoto in April 1996 at Pullman, Washington.
Zheng Yi (M.S., 1995) is studying garbology for his Ph.D. at the University of Arizona.
Joyanto Routh (M.S., 1993) married his wife Pia in India in 1996. They are living in the U.S. where Joy is working on his Ph.D. at Texas A&M University.
Tom Mooney (M.S., 1994) is working on his Ph.D. in southern California.
Lloyd Long (B.S., 1970) has been employed by the Arabian American Oil Company in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, since 1982 and is currently a geophysical systems analyst.
Andrew Mork (M.S., 1987) is manager of the geosciences group at Dames & Moore in Boise. He has been with the international engineering and environmental consulting firm since 1989.
Michelle Fitzgerald-Cox (B.S., 1980) is a medical equipment sales representative for Pacesetter in the San Diego area, where she lives with her husband Bill.
Jeff Walkley (B.S., 1994) is completing a Masterís in geology at EWU. He is working at Albertsons in Spokane, where he lives with his wife April.
Janis Hill transferred to Western Washington University to complete her Bachelorís in geology.
Mark Mihalasky (M.S., 1988) was hoping to finish his Ph.D. in 1997 at the University of Ottawa.
Joju Abraham (M.S., 1994) is working on his Ph.D. at Baylor University in Waco, Texas.
Frank Oliver (B.A., 1982) is a hydrologic technician for the U.S. Geological Survey in Yuma, Arizona.
Bob Pernsteiner (B.S., 1997; M.S., 1979) works as a production superintendent for Potlatch in Lewiston, Idaho. He has 5 children and 3 grandchildren!
Ron Doherty (B.S., 1994) is doing geological and environmental interpretation of aerial photography for Intrasearch in Lakewood, Colorado.
Gene St. Godard (M.S., 1990) is manager of Maxim Technologies, engineering and environmental consultants, in Spokane.
Ron Brady (B.S., 1985) works for the Department of Defense and lives in Port Orchard, Washington.
Randy Stephens (B.S., 1982) is a Senior Exploration Geologist for Esso Ltd. in Melbourne. He has an 11-year-old daughter and a one-year-old son. He and his wife Amanda are enjoying life in the Australian suburbs.
Andy Berg (B.S., 1976) retired from the U.S. Bureau of Mines in 1996 and is living in Spokane. He chaired the Pacific Northwest Metals & Minerals Conference held here in 1997.
Nick Condoyannis (M.S., 1996) recently completed his military obligation in Greece and is looking for a job related to the environment.
David Lehn (B.S., 1984) is a staff geologist and does structural inspection for AGRA Earth & Environmental in Spokane.
Mohammad Zafar (M.S., 1992) is working on a Ph.D. in geology at Naruto University of Education in Tokushima, Japan.
Mike Mayerle (B.S., 1995) married his wife Cris, who is a geophysicist, in 1996. He is working out of Tucson, Arizona, and in Peru for Slope Stability & Mining Engineering.
Marty Mumma (former professor) is teaching junior high school in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Jon Fancher (B.A., 1983) completed his M.S. in Environmental Science at Washington State University and works as an environmental scientist for IT Hanford in Richland, Washington.
Bruce Siegmund (M.S., 1991) is a project geologist for Damschen & Associates in Helena, Montana.
Kelly Kifer (B.A., 1994, B.A.E., 1994) teaches high school math and science in the Tri-Cities area, Washington.
Sean Donovan (M.S., 1984) is branch manager for EMCON in Tampa, Florida.
Owen Lavin (B.S., 1972) works as a regional
geochemist for Newmont Exploration in Denver. He received his
M.S. in 1976 and his Ph.D. in 1989 from
Queenís University in Ontario.
Don Kennedy (B.S., 1973; M.S., 1979) received his J.D. from the Gonzaga Law School in 1991 and now has his own law firm in Medical Lake, Washington.
Cole Lovett (M.S., 1984) received his Ph.D. in hydrogeology from Western Michigan University in 1995. He is an instructor at Lake Michigan College and teaches skydiving in the summer.
Karen Thompson Burow (B.S., 1983) is a hydrologist for the U.S. Geological Survey in Sacramento, California. She and her family, including two children, enjoy back-country skiing and backpacking.
James Luker (M.S., 1985) works in geology for Gale Associates in Weymouth, Massachusetts.
Dan Howard (M.S., 1990) has retired from hydrogeology and is a PC support specialist for Metropolitan Mortgage and Securities in Spokane.
Dave Boleneus (B.S., 1969) was one of our first graduates and is currently working for the U.S. Geological Survey in the Spokane office. He published two papers recently, one in 1994 and one in 1996.
Bill Deobald (B.S., 1993; M.S., 1995) is working in the geotechnical department for Law Engineering in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Shelley Coats Devoe (B.S., 1983) lives in Port Orchard, Washington.
Steve Drussell (B.S., 1982) is Sales Manager for Reliable Geo LLC, who sells remediation and water treatment equipment, and lives in Yakima, Washington.
